Alchemy Goods was founded in 2004 by Eli Reich, an avid biker and product engineer based in Seattle, with the motto "turning useless into useful". Alchemy Goods' products range from messenger bags to backpacks, wallets and accessories.
The origin of the idea came up when Eli had his messenger bag stolen in the summer of 2003. A combination of frugality, design knowledge and an abundance of available used bike tubes led Eli to decide to create a replacement bag rather than buying a new one. That's how the first messenger bag made of upcycled used bike inner tubes came to life!
Now, Alchemy Goods partners with businesses from all over the USA to create new gear from used material such as bike tubes, advertising banners, denim and canvas. Several companies committed to sustainability, such as REI and Trek, participate in Alchemy Goods' recycling program. Consumers can also join in these efforts and recycle their old bicycle tubes. Since this program started in 2006, Alchemy Goods has diverted over 1 million pounds of bike tubes and other salvaged materials from landfills.
Alchemy Goods is now owned by Eco Brands Group (LLC), a B Corp Certified company based in Boulder, Colorado. The Eco Brands Group (LLC) is also a member of Green America since 2007 and a Gold Leader of the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program since 2009. All Alchemy Goods' products are still manufactured in Seattle, free of PVC, vegan, handmade and built with upcycled material.
